Relfection

The senior capstone project taught me a lot about my topic as well as myself.  Critical thinking played a key part in my project because I used it to complete my research paper by putting together  essential parts that made my essay flow and make sense. When I blogged I used critical thinking to reflect on how much I grew as a person from my project's experience. Communication was also important, because I needed to communicate well with my mentor in order to have meet-ups. I had no problem with communicating with my mentor b/c he would always answer back asap. Working with my mentor was the only way I collaborated with someone for the Capstone, and my mentor was great so we worked well together.  For my project, I felt I didn't have to use much creativity b/c my project was straight foward and it contianed a lot of facts.

The Capstone Project helped me in many ways to grow as a person. Personally, I was able to overcome procrasination, speaking in front of an audience, and also being responsible and on time with my work. Because of this project, I grew socially by learning how to communicate to adults in the work enviornment such as when I was at my mentor's dealership. I gained knowledge throughout the whole project intellectually because I learned so much about hybrid vehicles and how they benefit the enviornmen/ the cosumers who purchase them. I'm glad I didnt't give up on this project since I learned a lot and became more mature after this experience.

Although the project allowed me to benefit and grow from it, I had to go through some struggles and challenges in all aspects of the project. First off, the research paper was so stressful for me because I used a lot of critcial thinking and at the same time I procrasinated on it. Luckily I pulled through and turned it on time by doing a lot of work right before the due date. Finding a mentor was hard for me too because many dealerships denied me due to liability, but thanks to Mr.Migdail, he appointed me to Victory Honda where they were kind and understanding people who were willing to become my menor. I had to be really patient with my mentor to complete my hours, because he was always busy and had a lot of work. So it was a struggle to finish, but I consistenly asked him when he was available so I wouldnt miss a day he was available to work with me.

Final Mentor Hours

5/13/13
Before I enjoyed my senior skip day, I logged in an hour with my mentor from 10-11. He showed me what some plans are for honda on there hybrid technology in the future. I orgnaized some papers for him and he explained why being a buisness development career manager is stressful. I realized that I don't want to do anything with management in my career.

5/14/13
Tuesday, I was able to finish my 25th hour with my mentor from 4-5. He just drove me around in a hybrid car again, this time a hybrid accord. I was able to drive it in a parking lot since he trusted me. I felt that there was not really a difference in how it feels to drive a hybrid and a regular car.

Hours #22-24

5/10/13
Friday, I was able to log in one hour from 4-5pm. I again just shadowed my mentor as he was doing regular work. While I was shadowing, I learned that whenever you are a a higher position in your job, there's no need to push around employees below you to get work done; being friendly and kind creates a good/easier vibe to succeed in a buisness.

5/12/13
Sunday, I logged in 1 hour. For this hour I simply just followed him as he took care of a new car buyer for a moment; I took some notes on what my mentor was saying to the customers and learned that the rims of hybrids are made to help conserve with the braking that builds of electricity My mentor taught me to always be convincing when a customer starts with an interest in a vehicle already.

mentor hours #18-21

5/5/13
On my birthday, I was able to visit my mentor's assistance Janice for an hour since I was free after I celebrated my bday. With her, I was able too check out a honda hybrid. I just took extra notes on hybrids, and I found out most hybrids come from Japan (90%). I learned that I can't judge an assistant on knowing information about what I'm looking for b/c she is just an asst.

5/6/13
Monday, I logged in 2 hours with my mentor and followed him throughout the day by shadowing his usual work. I learned from him that keeping a postive outlook through a lot of stress helps a person succeed and move foward through his or her work. I also wiped some windows of the cars.

Mentor Hours #14-17

4/25/13
On Thursday, I logged in an hour with my mentor from 4-5. I was able to shadow my mentor again as he sold a car. His job is too help customers with choosing vehicles but he basically just reals them in for a dealer to handle the rest. I learned it is a valuable assest to be outgoing and persuasive.

4/26/13
Friday, I spent an hour with my mentor from 4-5. I asked my mentor if I could check out the mechanics in the dealership, but that day I learned that mechanics acutally dont work at the dealership in most cases unless their is a repair shop in the building. So if I were to work as an engineer in mechanics I wouldn't be in a dealership. This day all I did was shadow my mentor's co-worker, Janica, b/c he was busy on the phone.

4/28/13
Sunday, I spent 2 hours with my mentor since I was free all day. He took me on a ride in the 2013 cr-v hybrid sport car and was pretty thrilling knowing that a car can still be fast even though it's a hybrid. A hybrid is turned off whenever its on brake to save gas. I also was able to see how the engine of a hybrid is assembled by a video called "Inside a Hybrid"

Mentor time during Star testing

4/18/13
During SSFHS star testing, I was able to log in 1 hour with my mentor. From 9-10, my mentor showed me a video and a book that guided me through the engine of a hybrid. I learned that an engine can vary depending on what type of hybrid it is.

4/19/13
Friday, I met again with my mentor from 9-10 and just finished up the video/ book of the hybrid. Auto brands are now starting to make sport hybrids because innovaters are trying to prove that a hybrid can also be as fast as some sport gas cars. I also cleaned some cars by wiping the windows.

Mentor Hours

My mentor hours are completed at Victory Honda located in San Bruno, formely known as Grace Honda

3/24/13
On a Sunday, i completed my very first hours of mentoring. I logged in 2 hours, and i learned some new things. From 10-11 a.m. I worked/watced a tutorial cd on hybrid cars that just went over some basics. Then for the next hour, I followed my mentor around while he was trying to sell cars to learn some questions customers have on buying "green" cars.

3/27/13
I logged in 2 hours on a Wednesday at 4pm after school, and I learned that hybrids can travel 40-70 miles per gallon which is a lot compared to an ordinary vehicle. I was a shadow assistant for my mentor for pretty much the whole time, but it was a chill experience too see how a car salesman works. They can do a lot of persuading and hybrid cars seem to be more easier to compliment about.

3/31/13
Sunday at 2pm I completed 3 hours. For an hour and a half I greeted customers, asked if they have interest in hybrids cars, etc. then for the rest of the time I window shined the cars and then I learned some tips on the maintenance of hybrid cars.

4/11/13
After school on a Thursday, I logged in 2 more hours. This time I was given more videos on hybrid cars to watch. I also did so more cleaning on cars. From the video I learned that there are thrre types of "green cars" hybrid, hybrid plug-in, and electric.

4/15/13
Today I logged in 2 hours at the start of 4pm. I cleaned the cars and my mentor showed me some facts on hybrids. I learned that hybrids produce 90% less pollutants than comparable non-hybrid cars. My mentor showed me that there is slight steady increase in the purchasing of hybids meaning they are starting to expand more.
